In the past, The loom was considered a living being that was revered and feared, When empty, It was dead, But as long as the threads were stretched, It was alive, Men were forbidden to use it. When the time came to remove the carpet from the loom, Women would sing because it meant death and the need to mourn.

🌟 Beni Ouarain Rugs 🌟
🔸 Beni Ouarain rugs are high-quality handmade rugs crafted by a Berber community called Beni Ouarain, which belongs specifically to the ancient Zenata tribe. They have been living in the Middle Atlas Mountains since the 10th century. The Beni Ouarain tribe can be found east of the city of Fes and south of Taza in Morocco.
🔸 This community leads a traditional semi-nomadic life. During part of the year, these Berber people cultivate cereals in the lower mountains and live in temporary dwellings close to fertile lands. Uncultivated lands are considered freely exploitable. The rest of the year, these tribes live in tents and move with their livestock, primarily consisting of sheep and goats.
🔸 The harsh and humid climate combined with low temperatures presents a major challenge for these tribes in the Middle Atlas region. To counter the weather conditions, they produce warm, unique, and multi-purpose Berber rugs.
🔸 The Beni Ouarain tribe is renowned for crafting thick-piled, hand-knotted Berber rugs using high-quality, undyed wool from sheep. These rugs predominantly feature a white background with black or brown geometric designs.
🌟 Crafting Beni Ouarain Rugs 🌟
🔸 The wool from sheep in the Middle Atlas, where winters can be very harsh, serves as a delicate and thick raw material, perfect for making Berber rugs. These rugs serve as warm blankets and insulation in nomadic tents, protecting against the cold.
🔸 Beni Ouarain rugs are also used as plush mattresses for sleeping. Sometimes, the tribes stack these Berber rugs to ensure a cozy and comfortable bed. Some rugs are so large that they serve as a bed for the entire family!
🔸 The crafting of Beni Ouarain rugs primarily relies on the natural, undyed wool from sheep, which forms the base of the intricate weaving. For this community, using this exceptional wool, considered the very essence of these traditional rugs, fulfills practical needs. The wool is carefully sheared, cleaned, delicately processed, and dried by the women of the community, who sometimes wait 1 to 2 years to obtain thicker, perfectly soft and silky wool.
🔸 Hand-knotted Berber rugs with a luxurious soft touch. Made from 100% natural wool, they bring warmth to any room in your home. Choose this model with beautiful black patterns to enhance your living room and journey into the heart of the Atlas Mountains. These rugs symbolize the authenticity, passion, and craftsmanship of the Berber people.
